No, we’re not going to a concert, but we will be experiencing scenic views, driving along the countryside and dining in a boathouse next to the Tennessee River.
We will be meeting at Cracker Barrel (2115 South Church Street I-24 Exit 81B) in Murfreesboro at 9:00 AM. After the driver’s meeting, we will depart at 9:30 AM towards Sewanee, of course, using the backroads with the Wind in our hair (if you have any) to get there.
We will be stopping around 11:00 AM at the Sewanee Memorial Cross located in a wooded area on the edge of a bluff on the campus of The University of the South. Sitting on the Cumberland plateau overlooking the Franklin County valley, it was constructed in August 1922 as a memorial to all who died in “The war to end all wars.” Following in the tradition of many summit crosses, it not only serves as a reminder of those who died in World War I, but for all from Franklin County who have died in wars since then. The view of the Earth, with valley view below is spectacular and we can take a group shot their before we move on.
We will leave around 11:30 AM and travel to Mount Eagle for a pit stop before heading to Chattanooga via I-24 to Boathouse Rotisserie and Raw Bar (1459 Riverside Dr) next to the Water, for great food. We should arrive around 2:00 PM Eastern Time.
The Boathouse with it’s eclectic menu and one of the busiest oyster bars in the country, is a long-standing Chattanooga tradition for neighborhood camaraderie and a choice destination for the best of riverfront dining, located directly on the Tennessee River in the heart of Chattanooga’s stylish Riverwalk about a mile and a half from the downtown hotel district.
After we eat and fellowship, you can drive home, stay around the city or whatever you want.
