THE DRAGON CALLS

The Music City Miata club will make its annual trek to Deals Gap on the first full weekend of August.  This is the annual MIATAS AT THE GAP which usually includes 200 to 300 cars from around the country.  For those of you who haven’t been, it is an 11 mile stretch of highway which contains 318 turns and switch-backs.  There is No intersecting roads or driveways.  The ultimate MIATA ROAD!  In addition to the runs thru the Gap, we will explore some of the most beautiful hill country in and around North Carolina and the Smokey Mountains which includes the following:

• Day 1: Thursday Drive to Robbinsville sponsored by Barbara & David Williams
  •    Meet at Cracker Barrel, Murfreesboro at I-24 Exit 81B with a prompt departure time of 8:45 AM. Route is still in process, but a stop at Mickie D’s in McMinnville and 11 AM lunch at the Cookie Jar will be included. At the end of the trail, tradition has us eating at Lynn’s after checking in at the hotel.            
• Day 2: Friday drive to Helen GA sponsored by Roy & Linda Herndon
  • Heading to Helen the scenic way, dine at the Heidelberg Restaurant and possible stop at Smithgall Woods State Park as there is a covered bridge for some good photos.
• Day 3: Saturday Surprises sponsored by Jerry Hammock
  • It’s a surprise, but word has it, we’ll be heading to Cherokee, through the National Park and dine in Gatlinburg.  Don’t tell anyone that I told you.
• Day 4: Sunday home safe and sound sponsored by Marilyn and Greg Johnson
  • What’s better than a scenic drive through the mountains, except for a drive and a lunch. After departing Robbinsville we will travel down the very beautiful Cherohala Skyway. A great drive and view regardless of the weather. From a long distance look on a sunny day to watching the clouds wisp by if it’s a little overcast, it’s a great drive either way.  At the end we will beat feet (or tires) to the Cheaters in Cookeville. We will get out of Robbinsville in an attempt to get to the restaurant before the church crowd. Then we will scatter with everyone being on there own to find their way home.
